TGI is a synbiotic formulation with unique combination of prebiotics (mannan oligosaccharides) and probiotics (live cultures of gut friendly bacteria) having synergistic action in keeping the poultry flocks free from many enteric infections.
TGI is developed to maintain gut integrity particularly without using AGPs (antimicrobial growth promoters) among breeders, layers and broilers. TGI conveniently combines activities of prebiotics and probiotics in a synergistic manner. Prebiotics selectively act against enteropathogens like E.coli, Salmonella, Clostridium and support proliferation and colonization of desired microflora in the intestine. Probiotics competitively exclude enteropathogens from the intestinal mucosa thereby reducing the incidences of enteric infections.
Use of feed gtrade gut acting antibiotics and antimicrobials (AGPs) does reduce overgrowth of enteropathogens in the intestinal environment. However they adversely affect normal flora resulting into microbial imbalance in the intestine. The process of digestion and assimilation of nutrients in the gut gets impaired. Permanent colonization of Salmonella in the gut due to Salmonellosis results into continuous shedding through dropping spreading the infections to other healthy birds (feco-oral contamination).
TGI is a major step towards replacement of AGPs without compromising with the production performance of the poultry. Normal flora of the chicken intestine comprises of many helpful bacteria like lactobacilli, alcaligenes, bifidobacteria etc. and some of these strains colonize the surface of villi of the small intestine. These also compete with enteropathogens entering into intestine through feed, water and litter. The normal flora is always vulnerable to external pressures on account of antibiotic medication, vaccination, sub-clinical or clinical infections, heat stress, shifting, dehydration, excessive chilling, toxicity and constituent strains of normal flora are continuously being replaced by other bacterial strains. Obviously, there is upper hand over the population of normal flora. Regular use of TGI in feed can help in maintaining healthy gut and drastically reduce shedding of Salmonella in the contaminated/ infected flocks.
